LET’S MAKE SOME MISTAKES

FLOW AND PRECISION BEGINNER CONSTRUCTION CLASS.

MY APPROACH IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT. I LOVE THE IDEA OF MISTAKES AND FEEL THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO BUILD AND CRAFT SOMETHING. MY CLASS IS CENTERED AROUND PRECISION AND FLOW CONSTRUCTION, WITH A FOCUS ON BASIC SKILLS AND SALVAGE WORKS.

LEARN THE BASICS OF CONSTRUCTION, PROBLEM SOLVING, TOOL ORIENTATION, AND BUILDING PRINCIPLES, DESIGNED FOR CREATING A SOLID FOUNDATION, WHILE HAVING FUN AND STAYING STAFF.

LET’S BUILD SOME COOL SHIT.

Safety comes first. Construction can be scary and dangerous, but it can also be intuitive and innate. The goal is to create awareness around the risks of construction, while building basic knowledge, confidence and methods.

I began my construction career in 1992, while in college, helping to build a climbing wall. Before that, and as a kid ,I always enjoyed tinkering with stuff, but I was limited in access to the proper tools, and generally tried to fix most problems with a couple of screw drivers, a hammer and a vice grip.

In 2000, I started working for an industrial and commercial roofing company. In 2003, I started remodeling homes on the side. In 2011, I built my first tiny home, in the form of a treehouse, which led to more tiny home building, a few mobile saunas and varies other eclectic, precision and flow based projects, with salvaged and new materials.

Construction has always been a means of physical expression, a creative outlet, livelihood, combined with the rewards of a productive outcome and mental stimulation, focused on creating useful things and fixing problems.

BUILD CLASS

Build confidence geared towards the total beginner, with no or little prior construction experience. I try to demystify some things and guide students in the process of building. I come from the perspective that mistakes are not only part of the process, they are a requirement of the process, while safety comes first. I also don’t approach building with an “all answers” approach, as the further you get down the road, the more you realize how much you don’t know. Its not about having the right answer, but being open to the right answer, with knowledge there are many ways to tackle a problem.

Students can either opt-in to creating a specific project or skills training. Each approach comes with pros and cons. Skills training allows for a more diverse set of experiences and wide range of knowledge, at a lower cost. A product creation class, yields a usable product, with higher material costs and less varied skills training.

Certain projects may require more than 5 days to complete. Please note, we are not a woodworking class. We are build class and are happy to discuss the difference during our initial consultation call.

HOW IT WORKS

First we set-up a call to discuss your interest, build focus, past experience, availability, goals and group size. From there we come up with a build schedule and plan.
